Crank It up

01/08/2010 17:56
Turning up the tunes while you exercise pushes you harder, says a new study. For one test, women listened to their fave workout songs at four different volumes, and when the music was loudest, they could do seven more leg presses than they could at the lowest level of sound. How it works: Your...

*I joined a health club last year, spent about $400. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to show up.
*I have to exercise early in the morning before my brain figures out what I am doing.
*I don't exercise at all. If God meant us to touch our toes, he would have put them further up our body.

   What a time for my back to go out!

“Every woman that finally figured out her worth, has picked up her suitcases of enlightenment and  pride and boarded a flight to freedom, which landed in the valley of change.”
Shannon L. Alder

Life's Journey

Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others.
It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Do not set your goals by what other people deem important.
Only you know what is best for you.
Do not take for granted the things closest to your heart.
Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.
Do not let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past nor for the future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live all of the days of your life.
Do not give up when you still have something to give.
Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
It is a fragile thread that binds us to each other.
Do not be afraid to encounter risks.
It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find.
The quickest way to receive love is to give love.
The fastest way to lose love is too hold it too tightly.
In addition, the best way to keep love is to give it wings
Do not dismiss your dreams.
To be without dreams is to be without hope.
To be without hope is to be without purpose.
Do not run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been,
but also where you are going.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

“As long as you look for someone else to validate who you are by seeking their approval, you are setting yourself up for disaster. You have to be whole and complete in yourself. No one can give you that. You have to know who you are - what others say is irrelevant.”
Nic Sheff

I am a strong, funny, kind, and beautiful woman. Loved by many, and hated by few.  I stand up for what is right even when it's hard. Don't be fooled and mistake my kindness for weakness. I am a powerful force, a favorite child of God.

 Jubilance ~ Celebrating Womanhood

“There's something AMAZING about you! You owe it to yourself to fulfill your destiny. You were put on earth for a reason. Don't betray yourself because of another's opinions of who you should be. God has already implanted within you who He  MEANT  you to be. Trust your gut instincts.”  --  Yvonne Pierre, The Day My Soul Cried

“Lord, when I feel that what I'm doing is insignificant and unimportant, help me to remember that everything I do is significant and important in your eyes, because you love me and you put me here, and no one else can do what I am doing in exactly the way I do it.”

Still I Rise

Still I Rise

  by Maya Angelou
You may write me down in history
With your bitter, twisted lies,
You may trod me in the very dirt
But still, like dust, I'll rise.

Does my sassiness upset you?
Why are you beset with gloom?
'Cause I walk like I've got oil wells
Pumping in my living room.

Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I'll rise.

Did you want to see me broken?
Bowed head and lowered eyes?
Shoulders falling down like teardrops,
Weakened by my soulful cries?

Does my haughtiness offend you?
Don't you take it awful hard
'Cause I laugh like I've got gold mines
Diggin' in my own backyard.

You may shoot me with your words,
You may cut me with your eyes,
You may kill me with your hatefulness,
But still, like air, I'll rise.

Does my sexiness upset you?
Does it come as a surprise
That I dance like I've got diamonds
At the meeting of my thighs?

Out of the huts of history's shame
I rise
Up from a past that's rooted in pain
I rise
I'm a black ocean, leaping and wide,
Welling and swelling I bear in the tide.

Leaving behind nights of terror and fear
I rise
Into a daybreak that's wondrously clear
I rise
Bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave,
I am the dream and the hope of the slave.
I rise
I rise
I rise.

You can be the most beautiful and acomplisnhed person in the world, but if you feel as if you're worthless, all of that doesn't matter. Every second that you spend on doubting your worth, every moment that you use to criticize yourself; is a moment of your life wasted. Release yourself from that cocoon of doubt that you've enveloped yourself in. Be as free and confident as a butterfly in its ability to fly.

“The truth is that you are innately good, wise, and powerful. You were created in and for good.”
Deborah Day

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Even though domestic violence is usually hidden away from the public we can "Shine a Light" on it. Yes, we raise awareness of domestic violence by “Shining a Light” on the subject and bringing it out of the darkness!  Most of us know someone who has been touched by this violence but still, domestic violence and sexual assault remain hidden away and misunderstood. *Learn the signs of domestic violence and listen without judgment to victims/survivors of sexual assault.
Domestic Violence is a pattern of behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence. Some signs of an abusive relationship include:
   * Exerting strict control (financial, social and/or appearance).  * Needing constant contact including excessive texts and calls.  * Extreme jealousy.  * Insulting a partner in front of other people.  * The victim shows consistent depression, personality becomes subdued, suicidal.  *Showing fear around a partner. * Isolation from family and friends.  * Frequent canceling of plans at the last minute.  * Unexplained injuries or explanations that don’t quite add up.
Sexual assault is a crime motivated by a need to control, humiliate and harm. Perpetrators use sexual assault as a weapon to hurt and dominate others. Sexual assault is forced or coerced sexual contact without consent. Consent is the presence of a clear yes, not the absence of a no. It can take many forms that I can't mention here, but you can look them up.
So, get the facts and find the resources that are available. *Break the silence. Speak out. Seek help when you see this problem or harassment of any kind in your family, your community, your workplace or school. *Get involved. Volunteer in your community, or donate to a local, state or national domestic violence or sexual assault organization.
Food for Thought
It isn't your position that makes you happy or unhappy, It's your disposition.
Sometimes we are so busy adding up our troubles that we forget to count our blessings.
The most valuable gift to give someone is a good example.
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Howard Thurman
God Is Our Guide
God does not send
More than we can bear
Our hearts will mend
If we keep Him there.
After storms it grows calm,
Dark is followed by sun,
We are held in His palm,
Love and faith make us one.
Although there are days
That bring trials and pain,
Having faith in His ways
We will triumph again.
When we let go of fear
Prayer and love make us strong
Know that God will be near
To help guide us along.
People are unreasonable, illogical and self-centered,
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives ...
Do good anyway.
If you are successful you win false friends and true enemies ...
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow ...
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable ...
Be honest and frank anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs ...
Fight for some underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight ...
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you help them ...
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth ...
Give the world the best you've got ... ANYWAY.
"The most destructive thing we can possibly do in life is to make another person doubt his worth and identity as a child of God. The very most productive thing we can do is to help ourselves and others realize that as children of God, our worth is infinite.”
Toni Sorenson
Twilight
Before the sinking sun
Shadows begin to dim
To a chorus that is the night
Crickets fiddle, slow
Warblers whistle, low
Shine, shine velvet moon
Till last you fade from sight
Hear the sea in song
Where the swallows play and fly
Starlight in the haze
Flicker fireflies, ablaze
Beneath the candles in the sky
