"The mother is everything - she is our consolation in sorrow, our hope in misery, and our strength in weakness. She is the source of love, mercy, sympathy, and forgiveness. She who loses her mother loses a pure soul who blesses and guards her constantly." -- Kahlil Gibran

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine desert us; when trouble thickens around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

What I wanted most for my daughter was that she be able to soar confidently in her own sky, whatever that may be.
-- Helen Claes

Mama was my greatest teacher, a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness.

Sisters in Troubled Times

Life happens.
Distance separates.
Children grow up.
Some grow away, or disappoint deeply.
Jobs come and go.
Love waxes and wanes.
Men don't do what they're supposed to do.
Hearts break.
Parents die.
Colleagues forget favors.
Many "friends"  forsake us.
Careers end.
Youth and beauty fades away.
Sickness may come.
Mates who promised to always be there for us, leave us .
But,..Sisters are there, no matter how much time and how many miles are between you.
The women in our lives are never farther away than needing them can reach.
When you have to walk that lonesome valley and you have to walk it by yourself, they will be on the valley's rim cheering you on, praying for you, pulling for you, intervening on your behalf, and waiting with open arms at the valley's end.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Sometimes, they will even break the rules and walk beside you... or come in and carry you out.
Girlfriends, daughters, granddaughters, daughters-in-law, sisters, sisters-in-law, mothers, grandmothers, aunties, nieces, cousins, and extended family, all bless our life!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   The world wouldn't be the same without women, and neither would I.
When we began this adventure called womanhood, we had no idea of the incredible joys or sorrows that lay ahead.  Nor did we know how much we would need each other.                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Every day, we need each other still.
( There are more than twenty angels in this world.  Ten are peacefully sleeping on clouds.
Nine are playing, and one is reading this at this moment. )

The women in our lives are never farther away than needing them can reach.

Every day, we need each other still.

Sisters are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.

Friendship . . .

is shared.
is forgiving.
is understanding.
is shared secrets.
heals many hurts.
is not judgmental.
is shared laughter.
is slow and steady.
is dependable and true.
is more precious than silver or gold.
is meant to be savored like fine wine.
is not perfect, much like we are not perfect.
does not hold grudges or demand perfection.

makes all the wrong things in life, right somehow.
is always there, through times of trial, happy times and hard times.
just happens, but once discovered, needs to be tended like a beautiful garden.
is a road to be traveled slowly, remembering the sights and sounds.
is strength when you are too weak to notice its there.
is a cherished moment of mutual understanding.

reaches into your heart and grabs a firm hold.
is sunshine through the clouds.
cannot be forced or induced.
is relaxed and comfortable.
is a shoulder to lean on.
is an ear to whine to.
gets better with age.
is shared tears.
is shared pain.
is shared joy.
is love.
is you.
